The Sea Turtle Conservancy, of Bocos del Toro region of Panama, is looking for Research Assistants for the conservation and monitoring of sea turtles. A maximum of 12 research assistants (RAs) will be trained in sea turtle monitoring techniques by, and work under the supervision of, the STC’s coordinators. This annual research opportunity requires knowledge of English, fluency in Spanish, and education in biology or related fields. There are four species of sea turtles that frequent the seas and shores around STC, Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea), Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green (Chelonia mydas) and Loggerhead (Caretta caretta). RA assignments include monitoring, research and protection efforts in collaboration with members of communities close to the nesting beaches. In addition, STC researchers participate in education and awareness programs to highlight the importance of protecting and conserving sea turtles and other natural resources.
