Free Film Series on Water and Climate Change

The Sustainability Institute of Penn State University is hosting an online screening and panel discussion of two films focused on flooding and climate change. The pair of films, Tidewater and Facing the Mountain, highlight the intersections among the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and empowerment of attendees to engage with sustainability issues. The films tell stories that touch upon social, political, and environmental issues of flooding and climate change.

Sustainability Showcase Series from PSU

The Spring 2022 Sustainability Showcase Series, from the Sustainability Institute of PSU, will have inspiring speakers covering the theme “Driving It Home”. Speakers from around the globe will explore the origins and meanings of home, identify local social and environmental issues that hit home for students and other attendees, and empower attendees to begin addressing those issues to make communities more resilient.

Undergraduate Research Program in Panama

The Sea Turtle Conservancy, of Bocos del Toro region of Panama, is looking for Research Assistants for the conservation and monitoring of sea turtles. A maximum of 12 research assistants (RAs) will be trained in sea turtle monitoring techniques by, and work under the supervision of, the STC’s coordinators. This annual research opportunity requires knowledge of English, fluency in Spanish, and education in biology or related fields. There are four species of sea turtles that frequent the seas and shores around STC, Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea), Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green (Chelonia mydas) and Loggerhead (Caretta caretta). RA assignments include monitoring, research and protection efforts in collaboration with members of communities close to the nesting beaches. In addition, STC researchers participate in education and awareness programs to highlight the importance of protecting and conserving sea turtles and other natural resources.
