Australia 2018 Program Costs

Penn State Undergraduate Student
(Courses must be scheduled sequentially and as a unit)
BIOL 296, BIOL 496 or SUST 495; late spring, 2018; 3 credits
Cost: Students who are enrolled for 12 or more credits in the spring semester can add this online course for no additional tuition cost.
BIOL 296, BIOL 496 or SUST 495; June 24 - July 9, 2018; 1 credit
FIELD PRACTICUM: $4,000
TUITION: All students must also pay a one credit tuition plus a mandatory $86 for information technology and activity fees.
One credit tuition of $555 for BIOL 296 or $596 for BIOL 496 or SUST 495 (in state); or, $892 for BIOL 296 or $934 for BIOL 496 or SUST 495 (out of state).
Penn State Graduate Student

One credit tuition of $853 (in state) and $1,098 (out of state).
In-service Teachers

FIELD PRACTICUM: $4,500
TUITION: Teachers may gain either graduate credits or CEU hours. All teacher participants must be registered for either one or the other.
All teachers must also pay a one credit tuition plus a mandatory $63 for information technology and activity fees.
CEUs: 120 hours/$200
Graduate credit tuition based on number of graduate credits desired; 4 max at $500/graduate credit [3 credits for BIOL 496 or SUST 495 and 1 credit for BIOL 496 or SUST 495].

Scholarship Information
Penn State Undergraduates
All Penn State University undergraduate students who apply for the CHANCE 2018 Australia program should apply immediately for the competitive Pennsylvania Commonwealth Education Abroad Scholarship provided by the Penn State Office of Global Programs. For more information contact Education Abroad directly at 814-865-7681. Application deadline March 15, 2018.
The Penn State Student Engagement Network is also offering grants to those interested in expanding their undergraduate experience through engagement experiences. The number and amount of grants will vary based on the number of applications received; however, there is a maximum allotted amount of $3,000 per applicant. Application deadline March 16, 2018.

In-Service Teachers Scholarship
This is a need-based scholarship reserved for In-Service Teachers. If you wish to be considered, please submit a One Page Essay demonstrating your financial need. We recommend sending your essay at the same time that you submit your field course application.
There is a field on the "School Information (For Educators)" page of our online form where you can upload your essay. Preferred formats are Word Document or PDF.
What is Included in the Program Cost
What is Included in the Field Trip (practicum) Cost
All instruction and guide services; all meals and lodging as stated in the itinerary; all ground, water and air transportation within Australia; all entrance fees to National Parks and other sites; research and conservation activities; round-trip international airfare.
What is NOT Included in the Field Trip (practicum) Cost
Passport fees; Penn State mandatory United Healthcare Global insurance (~$2.00/day); gratuities to guides, drivers, or transfer personnel; transportation to and from Philadelphia International Airport, Pennsylvania; excess luggage fees; laundry; telephone calls; and any other expenses of a personal nature.
Deposit Information
Penn State student participants must be enrolled as full-time students. The application process officially begins on January 15, 2018. Deadline for student registration is March 30, 2018. A $500 deposit is required upon acceptance into this course. Balance due by May 25, 2018. The $500 deposit is non-refundable. Space is limited and will be assigned on an academic selection basis (GPA, reflective essay, and letter of recommendation).
